Perched in the second floor of the hospital, the Jane Ashley Garden has long offered a vital green respite for patients, visitors, and staff. This sensitive redesign honours the original intent while strengthening the garden's resilience and usability for years to come.

The layout has been refined to offer both communal spaces for gathering and quieter corners for reflection. Raised beds, rebuilt using the WoodblocX system, solve long-standing issues with shifting walls. Additional beds support tree planting, creating a more shaded microclimate in this exposed setting.

Feedback informed many of the upgrades: fixed seating was introduced in Accoya timber for its exceptional lifespan and weather resistance. The old water troughs, no longer safe for their original purpose, now serve as large planters, while cedar slatted screens gently protect the consultants' rooms to support climbers for privacy.

Existing features to be retained— pergola, sculpture plinths, and free standing benches — have been carefully restored. A resilient, drought-tolerant planting scheme brings colour and softness across the seasons, offering both beauty and ease of care.

A garden reimagined for wellbeing, memory, and change — rooted in the past, and prepared for the future.
